 St. Thomas Announcements…for Feb. 15th – 22nd

 This Week’s Highlights ….

Sunday Worship:  All St. Thomas friends and families are invited to join us for worship on Sunday, at 10:00 a.m., as usual.  Pastor Jeremiah’s message this week is entitled, “Who in your F.R.A.N. Circle is Unconnected?”   Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it?  See you then!

February Work Day…On Saturday February 25, the Trustees request your support in resolving open work items.  We did a fantastic job at our last workday, so to continue that success we are having another.  We will focus on church and parsonage items.  Note that this request is for non-Trustees, and both men and women.  Come when you can – we’ll be there from 8am to 12 noon.  The work items are those not finished due to time, resources, etc. in first work day, plus some new ones.  A check-off sheet will be provided.  Doughnuts and juice/coffee will be available!  All of these items save $$$ for STUMC. So, a couple of your hours would be appreciated!  Regardless of your physical abilities, there is a job for YOU!

Community News:

  • We have been invited to a panel discussion regarding Immigration, Education, and the Executive Order on Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hinsdale United Methodist Church. This discussion is open to the wider community of the western suburbs and the Mecca Mosque, with a panel which will include people who are familiar with immigration issues focusing on terminology and process.

  • Sunday, March 5 at 4:00 PM, Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest Avenue in
downtown Glen Ellyn hosts Valparaiso University’s Chorale in Concert.  This is the first time the Chorale has performed a concert at Grace.  The Chorale is one of the premier Lutheran collegiate choirs in the United States having toured all over the United States and Germany.  Under the direction of Christopher Cook, they will be traveling to Germany in 2017 to perform for the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.  Tickets are $10 for this concert, and can be purchased online at www.graceglenellyn.org or at the door. Refreshments will be served after the concert.  Call 630-469-1555 for information.

  • Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Incarceration of Japanese Americans, This Saturday & Sunday:  We were asked to share this information on behalf of our brothers & sisters, many who are still living and remain strong leaders in our own NIC churches, who experienced life in Japanese American concentration camps during WWII.  This coming Saturday and Sunday, the Japanese American Service Committee of Chicago invites you, your families and friends to join them in commemorating the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066 that ordered the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans into concentration camps during WWII. They are offering various programs commemorating this historic milestone, particularly during a time when the national rhetoric is sounding a bit too similar to the days preceding EO 9066.  For more information, contact: Michael Takada, Chief Executive Officer, JASC (Japanese American Service Committee), 4427 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60640

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns  and specifically for those dealing with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For families who recently lost loved ones, that they may find comfort during this time of grieving.  For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
