St. Thomas Announcements… May 17th — 24th

This Week’s Highlights ….

Sunday Worship:  All St. Thomas friends and families are invited to join us for worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday.  Pastor Jeremiah continues the sermon series, “Half Truths”, with this week’s message dealing with the saying, ”God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It!”

Also, weather permitting, if you are able to help out, Pharmer Phil will begin work on God’s Garden this Sunday following worship, so bring you “gardening duds” and come join in the beginnings of this summer project at St. Thomas, remembering that the donations earned from purchasing the vegetables are earmarked for the G.E. Food Pantry.

Dining Out Group will be meeting Friday, May 19th at 6PM at Bakers Square (75th Street & Woodward Avenue) in Woodridge.  Please let the church office know by 3PM that day if you are planning to join them.

Graduation Sunday; Our annual celebration of our graduates is coming soon, with the date to be established at the upcoming Leadership Team meeting.  If you have a student who graduates to another level of education this spring, please let the St. Thomas office know.  We need the student’s name, what level of education they are moving from and to, and, if a degree is involved we’d love the designation of what degree has been completed, along with their study major.

“April (and May) Showers bring May flowers, but much more!”  With the recent heavy rains, a serious roof leak has been experienced in the parsonage, including damage to the roof and resulting in additional damage to the ceiling in the family room.  It is estimated that the total cost of the roof replacement and repairs to the interior ceiling will be approximately $15,000.  Benefits from our insurance on the parsonage have been sought, and we await their response.  Obviously, we did not budget for this unfortunate event, so the Leadership Team comes to you, the friends and family of St. Thomas, seeking funds for this project.  A fund-raising drive, “Shekels for Shingles”, begins immediately.  Watch “the lego house” in the narthex to track our progress in meeting this $15,000 goal.  Please consider, in prayer, how you can help with YOUR Shekels, and be sure to mark your checks or cash envelopes for the parsonage roof as you donate to this project.

UMW Brunch:  Ladies, if you attended the UMW breakfast this past weekend, a jacket was left there, has been brought to the church and is ready for its owner to claim it.

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For families who recently lost loved ones, that they may find comfort during this time of grieving.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
