 St. Thomas Announcements… August 23rd— 30th

This Week’s Highlights ….

Sunday Worship Service:  All St. Thomas friends and families are invited to join us for worship with Pastor Jeremiah, at 10 a.m. on Sunday.  His message, “We are God’s Workmanship” is based on Jeremiah 18:1-6 and Ephesians 2:8-10.

Shekels for Shingles:   One way to support the roof replacement project and yet have a nice evening with friends and family is to participate in the Benefit Concert & Ice Cream Social which will take place this Sunday, August 27th, at 7:00 p.m. The 20 time international award winning Village Vocal Chords chorus will present “Let’s Raise the Roof!”, a concert to benefit the parsonage roof repair followed by an ice cream social hosted by the UMW.  The suggested donation at the door is $10 or more (if you would like to provide additional support to this project).  Please plan now to bring your friends and family for a wonderful evening of music and ICE CREAM!

Dining Out Group… will be meeting this Friday, August 25 at 6 pm at White Fence Farm (1376 Joliet Road – Romeoville).  Directions:  South on Route 53 passed I-55 and Business Park until you have to turn (Citgo station at the corner on right side of street) and go left.  The road changes into Joliet Road (Route 53 continues right at this light). The restaurant will be on the left.  The directions that come up through Google Maps tells you to go through the Business Park (most likely to make a right turn instead of a left turn in).  53 does back up through Lisle at that hour, Yackley/College/Werhli to Hobson or 75th is a good alternate and 355 at that hour may not be a good idea.  Let the church offic know by 3 pm that day if you are planning to attend.  They do not take reservations and won’t seat until everyone has arrived.  We need to know a count when we get there.

Glen Ellyn Food Pantry:  We still have two Sundays in August to give extra support to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.  Food donations are appreciated, with a special request for peanut butter, jelly, brown or white rice, pasta, canned tuna and toilet paper. However, cash donations are encouraged, as those funds can provide more food since we can order food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.  Please make your check out to our church with GE Food Pantry on the item/memo line.

Fall Bible Study: “Moses” A new Bible Study will begin on Wednesday (Soup & Study), September 13 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 14 at 1:30 p.m.  This study uses Adam Hamilton’s book, Moses in which he retraces the life of Moses – from his rescue as a baby to the courts of Pharaoh, his Exodus out of Egypt, to his gazing on the Promised Land. Combining historical insights, archaeological data, and the biblical text, Hamilton explores how this reluctant prophet grew in his relationship with God, and how you can overcome your own hesitancy to act boldly for the Lord.

If you plan to participate in either of these classes, please email the church office or sign the signup sheet on the ledge by September 3 so we can order you a book ($13).

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For families who recently lost loved ones, that they may find comfort during this time of grieving.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
