St. Thomas Announcements… August 30th – Sept. 6th

This Week’s Highlights ….

Sunday Worship Service:  All St. Thomas friends and families are invited to join us for worship with Pastor Jeremiah, at 10 a.m. on Sunday.  His message, “Was There Really a Moses?” is based on Exodus 1:8-22.  As the first Sunday of September (where DID the summer go????), this Sunday’s worship will also be a communion service.

Next Sunday, September 10, will be our “Friends & Neighbors Sunday”.  We have invited the Ahmadiyya congregation to join us for worship that morning.  More details on that celebration with our across the street neighbors will be forthcoming.

Shekels for Shingles:   We’re almost there…the Benefit Concert & Ice Cream Social last Sunday resulted in $3145 in donations toward the payments due for the repairs of the parsonage roof, with just under $500 left to be paid. However, we aren’t done.  We still need to replace the family room interior ceiling that was destroyed by the roof leakage, but we’re making great progress.  Thank you to all those who have given generously to meet this unexpected financial challenge. Please continue in prayer to see how you can help finalize this financial obligation.

Glen Ellyn Food Pantry:  While our specific month to support the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry comes to an end this week, your food & monetary donations are appreciated at any time.

Fall Bible Study: “Moses” A new Bible Study will begin on Wednesday (Soup & Study), September 13 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 14 at 1:30 p.m.  This study uses Adam Hamilton’s book, Moses in which he retraces the life of Moses – from his rescue as a baby to the courts of Pharaoh, his Exodus out of Egypt, to his gazing on the Promised Land. Combining historical insights, archaeological data, and the biblical text, Hamilton explores how this reluctant prophet grew in his relationship with God, and how you can overcome your own hesitancy to act boldly for the Lord.

If you plan to participate in either of these classes, please email the church office or sign the signup sheet on the ledge by September 3 so we can order you a book ($13).

Hurricane Harvey:  One way to help… If you are like me you are wondering what YOU can do to help those whose lives are in chaos as a result of Hurricane Harvey’s devastation in Texas and now in Louisiana.  Midwest Mission Distribution Center writes, “Hurricane Harvey has not stopped raining on Texas but we are getting ready to help its survivors.  We have purchased 27,000 trash bags and volunteers are rolling them – getting them ready for Cleaning Bucket Kits. Other volunteers are assembling the kits.  It has been a busy year for flood relief and we will need all the Cleaning Bucket Kit supplies.  Bug spray is in especially short supply.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Monetary donations or supplies bought hrough DollarDays would be the best way to donate, as they are shipped directly to MMDC at the Center’s bulk prices.  Monetary donations may be sent to:   MMDC at PO Box 56 in Chatham, IL  62629.   Thank you for all your support!”

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For families who recently lost loved ones, that they may find comfort during this time of grieving.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
