St. Thomas Announcements… Sept. 20th – 27th

This Week’s Highlights ….

Sunday Worship Service:  All St. Thomas friends and families are invited to join us for worship, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, to share in Pastor Jeremiah’s message, “What is Your Story of Passover?” using Exodus 12”1-14 as the scripture lesson.

And speaking of worship, if you would occasionally like to serve as liturgist for worship, we are setting up a calendar to assign liturgists to serve just one Sunday every 3 or 4 months.  Those who are interested are encouraged to attend the Worship Team meeting next Sunday immediately following worship.  If you are unable to attend that meeting but would like to be included in this schedule, please let the church office know this week so we can include you in the schedule that begins October 1.

Auction Planning Meeting: At 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, there will be a meeting of all those who are willing to help with our Fall Auction.  This is an important fund raiser for the church and your help will be appreciated.  Come to the meeting on Thursday to see how YOU can assist…it takes a village…we encourage you to be part of that village now!

Attention all Cooks:  Our Confirmation class has begun meeting and will be doing so each Sunday following worship.  We’d like to provide them with lunch (in the kitchen, at 11:30) before heading into their study and we are seeking volunteers to handle this each week.  Please let the church office know what Sunday you would be willing to provide this lunch (for 8 including confirmands and their teachers), or signup on the sheet provided for that purpose on the ledge.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate…in fact, if you would like to do so you could pay $20 – $30 for their monthly pizza lunch (the last Sunday of each month starting in October).  This is one way we can help to support our confirmands as they take this next step in their Christian journey.

Dining Out Group will be meeting next Friday, September 29th at 6pm at Famous Dave’s (704 Janes Avenue in Bolingbrook – by Meijer and IHOP and across Janes from Bolingbrook Promenade).  They don’t take reservations, so we will need to know a count before we get there.  Let the church office know by 3pm that day if you are planning to attend.

Have you ever been to Midwest Mission Distribution Center?  Their Director, Pat Wright, is retiring from this position on October 15.  We would like to send her a card from all the St. Thomas volunteers to thank her for her service.  A card will available for a couple of Sunday mornings on the hospitality table for you to sign your name.  We’re sure she’ll enjoy seeing the names of all STUMC friends and family who have benefitted from her leadership at MMDC.

Flu Shots are coming:   We still once again bring a “crew” from Walgreens to administer flu shots following worship some Sunday.  Bring your insurance and/or Medicare card and the shot is free.  We haven’t set a date yet, but if you are planning to get a flu shot this fall, perhaps you could wait and get it here at St. Thomas some Sunday morning.  As soon as we have a date set we’ll let you know.

Community News:  On Saturday, September 30, the Village Vocal Chords will hold a Vendor & Craft Fair here at St. Thomas to earn money to finance their efforts through-out the year.  The Fair will include 20+ booths, plus lunch will be available for sale.  Plan now to begin your holiday shopping at the VVC Vendor & Craft Fair next Saturday from 9:00 – 3:00.  The chorus will appreciate your support.

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  • For those dealing with natural disasters in their home states.
