 St. Thomas Announcements… Oct. 4th – 11th

 This Week’s Highlights ….

Blessing of the Animals:  A special service for Blessing of the Animals will be held this Saturday, Oct. 7th at 4pm.  This comes out of a tradition from St. Francis of Assisi.  As long as the weather cooperates it will be outside.  Everyone is invited to come.  All animals will be blessed including pets, general animal population of the world, endangered species and stuffed animals.  You are invited to bring your pet, a picture of your companion or an animal that you care about (endangered or special), or a stuffed animal that is special to you.

St. Thomas Dust Busters need your help:  Once a month, members of the congregation take a couple of hours out of their day to clean the church.  This usually takes place at 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday early in the month.  If you can assist with this time of service to the church, it would be greatly appreciated.  If you are able to help but would prefer to do that at a different time on a different day, please contact the church office indicating what you will do when, so they can cross that task off their list on the designated Saturday.  This Saturday, October 7, is the next Dust Busters Day…can you come and help?

Sunday Worship Service PLUS:  All St. Thomas friends and families are invited to join us for worship, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, to share in Pastor Jeremiah’s message, “The Ten Commandments?” using Exodus 20:1-4, 7-9, 12-20 as the scripture lesson. Following worship, Pastor Jeremiah and family would like to invite all St. Thomas friends and family to an Open House lunch at the parsonage 11:30 – 2:00.  Confirmation class study will take place at the parsonage following this event.  [Note:  If you have not had the pleasure of enjoying the fabulous culinary skills of Jeremiah, you NEED to do so.  It is a tasty delight!!!]

Women’s Wellness Weekend:  The annual retreat weekend for women will be Oct. 20-22.  We will be gathering at the Bishop Lane Retreat Center just outside of Rockford for a time of reflection, fellowship, renewal and worship.  All women are invited to attend.  You can bring a friend as well.  This year’s topic is “One Day I Wrote Back.”  Sound intriguing?   Come join us.  Registration is due Oct. 13th.

Singing Men of St. Thomas:  With the women away at retreat, The Singing Men of St. Thomas will provide music at the October 22 Worship Service.  Two one-half hour Wednesday rehearsals (October 11 & 18, from 7:00 – 7:30 p.m.) plus Sunday Oct. 22 9:15 a.m. arrival and The Singing Men will be ready to go.  All guys are invited, welcome and encouraged to participate in this brief time of song and fellowship.

Attention all Cooks:  Our Confirmation class has begun meeting and will be doing so each Sunday following worship.  We’d like to provide them with lunch (in the kitchen, at 11:30) before heading into their study and we are seeking volunteers to handle this each week.  Please let the church office know what Sunday you would be willing to provide this lunch (for 8, including confirmands and their teachers), or signup on the sheet provided for that purpose on the ledge.  (Right now, we need volunteers for Oct. 15 and then all Sundays in November & December.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate…they’ve had sloppy joes and tacos so far.  In fact, if you would like to do so you could pay $20 – $30 for their monthly pizza lunch (the last Sunday of each month starting in October).  This is one way we can help to support our confirmands as they take this next step in their Christian journey.

Fall Auction:  In preparation for our October 29 auction, there will be a meeting on Tuesday, October 10, of those interested in helping to make this important fund-raiser a success.  You are encouraged to invite your friends and family to join us for this fun fellowship.  And your assistance in providing auction items is needed as well.

Have you ever been to Midwest Mission Distribution Center?  Their Director, Pat Wright, is retiring from this position on November 1.  We would like to send her a card from all the St. Thomas volunteers to thank her for her service.  A card will available each Sunday mornings on the hospitality table for you to sign your name.  We’re sure she’ll enjoy seeing the names of all STUMC friends and family who have benefitted from her leadership at MMDC.

Flu Shots are coming:   We will once again bring a “crew” from Walgreens on November 5 to administer flu shots following worship some Sunday.  Bring your insurance and/or Medicare card and the shot is free. If you plan to participate, please signup on the sheet provided on the bulletin board.  If you are planning to get a flu shot this fall, perhaps you could wait and get it here at St. Thomas that Sunday morning
