St. Thomas Announcements… Oct. 30th –Nov.8TH

This Week’s Highlights ….

STUMC Office Hours next week:  Jacquie will be joining the VVCs on Wednesday, Nov. 1, as they travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia, for their annual convention and contests.  The VVCs will be competing this year, hoping to come home with a medal…and gold on a blue ribbon would be especially celebrated.  As a result, the church office will be open only on Monday (9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) and Tuesday (2 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.) and then will be closed until Jacquie’s return to the office on Tues., Nov. 7.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS PRIOR TO OUR Sunday Worship Service:  Be sure to turn your clocks back 1 hour and then join us at 10:00 a.m. as we celebrate All Saints Day this Sunday for worship and Communion. Pastor Jeremiah’s message this week is, “Walk Worthy of Your Calling” with scripture reading:  Ephesians 4:1-6.

Fall Auction:  Thank you to all those who organized, donated items, provided the food and participated in the auction this past Sunday.  A good time was had by all, and the total money earned, over $5000, will be helpful to the church.

The Annual Pecan Fundraiser for UMW is taking place now.  Price of a 16 oz pkg is $10.50; pecans should arrive the first week of Nov.  Use the signup sheet on the ledge to reserve your pecans.

Nov. 4:  Pumpkin Recycling:    Don’t forget to recycle your pumpkin on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. – noon, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (393 N. Main Street, Hillside Parking Lot, in Glen Ellyn)

Nov. 5:  Flu Shots:   Walgreens will have staff at St. Thomas this Sunday, November 5 to administer flu shots following worship.  Bring your insurance and/or Medicare card and the shot is free.

Attention all Cooks:  We are still in need of volunteers to provide lunch for eight people immediately following worship for the confirmation class and their teachers on the Sundays in November & December. This is one way we can help to support our confirmands as they take this next step in their Christian journey.  And if cooking is not your thing, you can provide financial support for them to go to McDonald’s or to order pizza.  Please sign-up on the ledge.

Congregational meeting:  A very important meeting of the St. Thomas congregation will take place on Sunday, November 12, immediately following worship.  The purpose of this meeting is to determine the future of St. Thomas based on our current financial challenges.  Please plan to attend.

Nov. 29/30 – Dec. 20/21:  Advent Bible Study:  The next Bible Study will be our Advent Study, using the book Down to Earth by Mike Slaughter.  As is our custom, there will be two sessions of this study, one on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 as the Soup and Study class, and one on Thursday afternoons from 1:30 – 3:00.  The cost of the book for the study is $12.00.  To reserve your copy of the book, please sign-up on the sheet available on the ledge.

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For these dealing with the loss of a loved-one.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  • For those dealing with natural disasters in their home states.
