 St. Thomas Announcements… Nov.21st  – 29th

 This Week’s Highlights ….

Nov. 26:  Hanging of the Greens worship service:  On Sunday, November 26, Pastor Jeremiah has planned a special “Hanging of the Greens worship service” during which we will decorate the sanctuary for Advent, celebrating the meaning of each decoration as it is put in place.  As part of that service we are asking each family (or individuals in the family if you would prefer) to “loan” the church an ornament that has a special meaning to you.  As you hang it on the Christmas tree we will ask you to give a brief explanation of why this ornament has special meaning to you and your family.  All ornaments will be returned to you following the advent season.

Nov. 20 & 21:  Holiday Office Hours:  To allow our staff to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with their families, the St. Thomas office will close today, Tuesday, Nov. 21, until Sunday, Nov. 26.

The Annual Pecan Fundraiser for UMW is taking place now.  The pecans have arrived and available for purchase at a price of a 16 oz pkg $10.50 and $8.25 for a 12 oz. package of roasted and salted mixed nuts.  See the table in the narthex following worship to get your supply for your holiday baking needs.

Attention all Cooks:  Just a reminder that we are looking for volunteers to serve lunch to our confirmation class (8 people, including teachers) each Sunday immediately following worship.  And if cooking is not your thing, you can provide financial support for them to go to McDonald’s or to order pizza.  Please sign-up on the ledge.

Nov. 29/30 – Dec. 20/21:  Advent Bible Study:  The next Bible Study will be our Advent Study, using the book Down to Earth by Mike Slaughter.  As is our custom, there will be two sessions of this study, one on Wednesday evenings beginning Nov. 29, from 6:00 – 7:30 as the Soup and Study class, and one on Thursday afternoons, starting Nov. 30, from 1:30 – 3:00.  The study books are in the office, ready for pickup, for a cost of $12.00.

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns  and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For these dealing with the loss of a loved-one.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  • For those dealing with natural disasters in their home states.
