 St. Thomas Announcements… Nov. 29th – Dec. 6th

This Week’s Highlights ….

December 3, First Sunday of Advent:  On Sunday, December 3, Pastor Jeremiah begins his sermon series based on the book being read by the two Bible Study classes, Down to Earth by Mike Slaughter.  The scripture reading for this week is Philippians 2:1-4, for the sermon entitled, “Down to Earth Love”.

What is Christmas without Christmas Music?  And what is Christmas Music without the VVCs annual concert, supporting the UMW mission projects.  This year’s concert is Monday, Dec. 4, at 7:30.  Tickets are available ahead of time for $10 in the St. Thomas office or from any UMW members…or you can buy your tickets at the door the night of the concert.  This is always a fun celebration of Christmas music, so plan now to attend.

Attention Christmas Cookie Bakers:  Your help with providing cookies for the Dec. 9 UMW Cookie & Craft Sale is needed.  Each family is asked to provide 12 dozen lovely, festive and delicious cookies.  HOWEVER, in the recent past, the cookies have sold-out well before the noon sale-end, so if you can make more than 12 dozen…HAVE AT IT!  Cookies need to be delivered to St. Thomas Thursday, from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Friday evening, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., or Saturday morning before 8:30 a.m. so they can be prepared for the sale.  All proceeds from this event go toward the support of UMW selected mission projects.

The Annual Pecan Fundraiser for UMW is winding down.  We are down to our last case of pecans, so if you want some, don’t delay.  They are available for purchase at a cost of $10.50  for a 16 oz. pkg.  See the table in the narthex following worship or from any UMW member to get your supply for your holiday baking needs.

Nov. 29/30 – Dec. 20/21:  Advent Bible Study:  The Advent Bible Study begins this week, using the book Down to Earth by Mike Slaughter.  As is our custom, there will be two sessions of this study, one on Wednesday evenings beginning Nov. 29, from 6:00 – 7:30 as the Soup and Study class, and one on Thursday afternoons, starting Nov. 30, from 1:30 – 3:00.  The study books are in the office, ready for pickup, for a cost of $12.00.

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and especially for those dealing with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For these dealing with the loss of a loved-one.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that it will grow and thrive so that we may carry on our mission.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  • For those dealing with natural disasters in their home states.
