 St. Thomas Announcements…Dec. 13th –20th

This Week’s Highlights ….

December 15 & 16, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.:  Pharmer Phil and his trusty helper, Sally, will be hosting an Estate Sale at the previous Zwierlein home, 3 S 224 Shagbark, Glen Ellyn.  Stop in to see what treasures you can buy that will help Bud and Margot to continue to move forward in their new residence at Brookdale.

December 17, Third Sunday of Advent:  On Sunday, December 17, Pastor Jeremiah continues his sermon series based on the book being read by the Bible Study classes, Down to Earth by Mike Slaughter.  The scripture reading for this week is Matthew 1:18-25, for the sermon entitled, “Down to Earth Lifestyle”.

Pledge/Commitment cards due:  Just a reminder that if you haven’t yet turned in your 2018 pledge card, the Finance Team would appreciate your getting that done this week.  You can just drop your form in the collection plate on Sunday. However, if you will not be in church on December 17, please mail your commitment form to the St. Thomas office (2 S 511 Route 53, G.E. 60137). We are asking for a 6 month pledge in the hopes that we may be able to remain open until the end of June, but that date requires an energetic financial support of St. Thomas right now.  In order for the Finance Team to prepare a budget to guide our financial challenges in the coming months, your commitment is very important.  Thank you for prayerfully considering your financial commitment to St. Thomas.

The Christmas Tree in the entryway:  Just a reminder that if you took a snowflake tag from the entryway Christmas tree, wrapped gifts need to be placed under the tree with the snowflake ornament attached no later than this Sunday, Dec. 17.  Coats for the special coat drive should NOT be wrapped but would still be appreciated by the 17th.  During this season of giving, thank you for extending a helping hand to this family from Pam Manzke’s school.

Thank You to those who helped with the UMW Cookie & Craft Sale on Saturday:  It’s said that it takes a village…well THIS village once again came through.  The array of delicious cookies and lovely crafts were a welcome treat for all those who attended this event.  Profits at this time total more than $1000 and this money will go to help support UMW mission projects.  Thank you bakers, crafters, and those who helped to organize and run the sale.  A good (and tasty time) was had by all!!!

P.A.D.S. also needs your help:  St. Thomas will be hosting the PADS program at Peace Lutheran Wednesday, Dec. 27 & 28.  Please see the signup sheet on the ledge to indicate how YOU will contribute to this local mission effort.  We are especially in need of those who will be in town to help out, as some who regularly volunteer will not be available.

St. Thomas Holiday Office Hours:  To allow our staff to celebrate the season with their families, the St. Thomas office hours have been adjusted as follows:

Week of December 18:  regular office hours, i.e. 9 – 1:30 Tuesday — Thursday

Pastor Jeremiah:  will be in Tuesday and Wednesday (Dec. 26 & 27) and then will be on vacation Dec. 28 – Jan. 4.  If you are in need of pastoral assistance during Pastor Jeremiah’s absence, please contact Juanita & Thom Brown, who will assist you.

Jacquie (Administrative Assistant):  Will be on vacation Friday (Dec. 22) – Saturday (Dec. 30).  She will return to the office on Sunday, Dec. 31 and then Tuesday – Thursday, Jan. 2 – 4, 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  As a result, there will be no weekly announcements on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Prayer Requests:  If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214.  This week we pray …

  • For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
  • For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
  • For these dealing with the loss of a loved-one, especially this week Gail Code, whose sister-in-law passed away last week.
  • For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that we will be guided by God’s hand as we move forward, doing His work in the world wherever we are planted.
  • For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
  • For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  • For those dealing with natural disasters in their home states.
