St. Thomas Announcements… Feb. 28th – Mar. 7th
This Week’s Highlights ….
Worship Opportunities: On Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jeremiah will deliver his 3rd Sunday of Lent Sunday message entitled, “Rehab: The Program”. His scripture reference is Exodus 20:1-17. This is also the first Sunday of the month so we will also celebrate communion, as is our custom.
Each Wednesday we continue to share in a Lenten Study entitled, Three Simple Rules. Our Lenten Study evenings begin with a simple meal at 6 p.m. in the dining room of the downtown (First Church) location. Rev. Diss will lead the study.
We also share the joy this week with Pastor Jeremiah and his family as he has received an appointment starting on July 1 as Associate Pastor at Community United Methodist Church in Naperville, a church of about 600 congregants. The Lees will remain in the St. Thomas parsonage until that time, allowing Isaac to complete 8th grade in his current school before moving on to a high school in their new location. We will be celebrating Pastor Jeremiah and our other staff members during worship on Sunday, March 18.
Still have questions about the proposed merger with FUMC? We will have a final question and answer time at St. Thomas this Sunday, immediately following worship. This will give you one more chance to get any questions or concerns answered before the vote on March 11th. A Reminder: Just prior to worship on March 11th the congregation will meet to vote on proceeding with the merger of St. Thomas UMC and 1st UMC.
Dining-Out Group…will meet on NEXT Friday, March 9th at 6 PM at the Bloomingdale Golf Club (181 Glen Ellyn Road) for the Fish Fry. They do not take reservations, so please respond by 3 PM that day and reply to all, so the first person to arrive can let them know how many we have. We will send an email when we have a final count. Please contact coordinator by email, phone or text no later than 3:00 p.m. on the 9th.
Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC): St. Thomas will again be sending a mission team to central Illinois to work at the MMDC. As we do so, we’d like to take with us supplies that are needed for their Teacher and their Student School Bag kits. The specific supplies needed at this time are Crayons (24 count box), Dry-Erase Markers, Dry Erase Erasers, and Glue Sticks. [Note from JJ: As I did last year, I can purchase these items in bulk for very good prices. If you would like to give me your CASH donations, I’ll apply them to cases of these items at about $35 per case. I already have cash donations enough to purchase 2 cases of these needed supplies and will continue to accept donations through Sunday, March 11, at which time I will place the order from St. Thomas.] Monetary donations can be sent directly to
MMDC, 1001 Mission Drive, Pawnee, IL 60558
Celebrating St. Thomas: All congregants are invited to use the bulletin board in the narthex to post photos, notes, mementos and messages of gratitude to share with each other in this. Plan now what you would like to add to this visual celebration!
Our next blood drive–the last at St. Thomas–is scheduled for Monday, March 12th, from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. You can sign up online or call or text Karen L. to get your preferred time slot for donating. (Be sure to leave your name and number and preferred time if you’re leaving a message.)
Prayer Requests: If you would like to add someone or be added yourself to our weekly prayer list, just email or call the St. Thomas office 630-469-1214. This week we pray …
- For healing and successful treatments for those dealing with health concerns and for those dealing specifically with cancer.
- For the caregivers, who help and support those needing their assistance.
- For these dealing with the loss of a loved-one.
- For the St. Thomas congregation, praying that we will be guided by God’s hand as we move forward, doing His work in the world wherever we are planted.
- For racial healing and political reconciliation throughout our country.
- For those dealing with the heartache of addictions, dementia and Alzheimer’s.
- For those dealing with natural disasters in their home states.
